Statement
I make quiet paintings in a noisy world. My work is an intimate meditation on humble objects and the detritus of studio life. The process of methodically considering light and color is my way of understanding the world and my ever- evolving place in it. I aim to promote a reengagement with the mundane while creating a moment of reflection for the viewer.
Loss is a universal experience. I am interested in describing the imprint people leave behind on each other and on the world. The artist’s studio is full of memory; its history is quite literally written on the walls and floor in gesso marks and various ephemera. I use my studio as subject matter to discuss the residue we each carry with us. Questions about absence and presence arise from the depicted ‘empty’ studio spaces and abandoned objects. Even in silence, there is a tremendous amount of noise.
